Marin firefighters plan 38-mile fuel break in Ross Valley

March 15, 2022

An MWPA project called the Greater Ross Valley Fuel Break Planning Project was detailed in the March 14, 2022 issue of the Marin Independent Journal. The article, written by Adrian Rodriquez, did a great job of describing the project as outlined in the public meeting on March 10.

The project, which stretches from eastern Corte Madera to Fairfax, is expected to start this summer and aims to reduce fire risk to several communities in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) while improving forest and ecosystem health by reducing non-native plant cover.

By the numbers:

• 38 miles

• Creates a defensible space buffer that runs along the backyards of 1,700 parcels

• Approx 1,300 acres
